Every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn

Inspired by the belief that every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, our mission is to provide volunteer tutoring and mentoring to Ravenswood students.

Nearly 200 Ravenswood Classroom Partners volunteers work with talented teachers to support the success of students in the Ravenswood City School District, serving communities in East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park. Ravenswood schools are located in the heart of Silicon Valley and surrounded by some of the finest public schools in the United States. However, the latest statistics tell a different story about these communities:

• 89% are low income
• 60% are English language learners
• 82% are reading below grade level
• 88% are below grade level in math

• ​​44% are homeless or housing insecure

​​RCP supports students facing these challenges. Each dedicated volunteer is a consistent, caring presence in the lives of these children, working weekly in the same classroom with the same students throughout the school year. Our volunteers partner with Ravenswood teachers to help improve academic performance and social-emotional well being of the students.

We Provide Three Programs

Literacy Tutoring

In partnership with teachers, volunteers assist students with reading and writing every week during the school year. They work one-on-one or in a small group.

Hands-On Science Support

Volunteers assist classroom teachers with weekly hands-on science labs, supporting students as they explore, experience and apply scientific concepts.

Mentoring Book Club

In each 5th grade classroom, volunteers
​assist in a 12-week program for selected students designed to foster academic and social-emotional growth.
