Hands-On Science
Guided by classroom teachers and using special science kits, volunteers help set up and run science labs weekly, enabling students to engage in hands-on exploration and application of concepts in science. Science volunteers support students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, working to support the whole class during the lessons.
Jeanette KennedyJeanette has been volunteering in a second grade classroom for years and also serves on the RCP board of directors. As the daughter of two teachers, she knows that an excellent education can changes lives.
"I am especially excited that RCP added hands-on science as another way to support Ravenswood students. My mother is a retired science teacher and from my own experience I know how much science can open up a world of possibilities for children as they imagine their futures." When reading with students, Jeanette finds that "...most of the students I tutor in reading want to read about science topics. So the addition of science support in the classroom will dovetail nicely with a topic that excites so many of our students and fosters a love of learning." |
