Math Tutoring
Guided by classroom teachers, volunteers help students establish a strong foundation and confidence in math through individualized tutoring. Tutors are able to work one-on-one with students on specific math concepts they need to learn before they move on to learn more advanced concepts. Our program is adapted for both the youngest learners and the older students across elementary school to help students develop essential skills that have a lifelong impact.
John ForeseJohn Forese was drawn to volunteer tutoring students in math, a skill he sees as particularly valuable for this younger generation. And given his career in information sciences and data analytics, he’s a great asset to our team. John found that the training provided by RCP equipped him
to be successful as a first time volunteer with no teaching experience. John told RCP, "Within a few short weeks, I developed bonds with the students and was able to help them overcome any fears they had about learning math. It’s rewarding to see the thrill a student displays when they suddenly grasp a math concept. It’s a joy to see students embrace math and feel successful and it gives me an indescribable feeling, knowing I made a difference." |
When asked his favorite part of working with John, a 5th grader named Daniel said, "Doing the math chart and playing war. It was fun.”
