Our Core Programs

Three ways to volunteer with us, three ways we help students

Our volunteers can be counted among the reliable and engaged adults in the lives of students in Ravenswood City School District (Ravenswood), located in East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park. For over 11 years, All Students Matter's trained volunteers have been inspiring elementary school students to improve their academic performance. We are unique because we support elementary school students by placing volunteers in their classrooms each week throughout the school year at no cost to the school district. We select passionate and dedicated volunteers who consistently support the same teacher, on average, for three school years.

The work we do

All Students Matter is focused on elementary school students in Ravenswood. Close to 200 volunteers support 62 teachers and 1,500 students each week for the entire school year.
  • We support TK through 5th grades in five elementary schools
  • Volunteers commit to a specific classroom
  • Work is done in small groups or one-on-one
  • We implement district and teacher curriculum
  • Volunteers are trained to build students’ literacy skills and social/emotional skills

Our impact

All Students Matter has consistently provided reliable, trained volunteers for the last eleven years. Our success is measured by the improved reading scores as well as the touching handwritten thank you notes from the students and teachers.

We make a positive impact as shown in our annual teacher survey results. Our most recent teacher survey shows:
  • 100% said ASM volunteers improved the students’ academic skills
  • 100% said ASM volunteers improved the students’ self confidence

Thank you ASM volunteers!

These video tributes are for the dedicated volunteers who provide consistent support to students and teachers every week. We thank you for all you do in Ravenswood!

Ravenswood teachers, principal and superintendent comments

"I am more than grateful for all of my volunteers. My job is much easier."
"Any extra help is vital. I appreciate all that you do to support our students."
"I love my ASM volunteers! They are amazing, reliable, and communicative."
"I'm so impressed with your volunteers, and thankful for their support. My only wish would be to have a volunteer every day. In gratitude."
"My volunteers have been amazing! They work so hard with my kids. Thank you!"
Thank you, All Students Matter volunteers, for your support and dedication to our students and instructional program! Your commitment is critical during this time as we reconfigure and redesign our elementary schools. Students and their families will either move to a new school community or welcome a new school community. Where our students attend, I guarantee you will be needed! The individual tutoring you provide to students makes a tremendous difference and will be instrumental to ensure the future success of every student.

Gina Sudaria, Superintendent
All Students Matter volunteers have become a part of our Willow Oaks family. They have integrated themselves to be part of every classroom. Some have even been with the same teacher for multiple years or have followed their students to the next grade level. Our students look forward to working with them weekly on their literacy, math, and social emotional skills. It is evident in the way our students perform that our volunteers make a difference. Their confidence and willingness to try comes from the attention our students receive from our volunteers. We are extremely grateful and thankful that All Students Matter have built a strong relationship with our school, students, and staff.
