RCP supports students facing these challenges. Each dedicated volunteer is a consistent, caring presence in the lives of these children, working weekly in the same classroom with the same students throughout the school year. Our volunteers partner with Ravenswood teachers to help improve academic performance and social-emotional well being of the students.
We Provide Three Programs
Literacy TutoringIn partnership with teachers, volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups with students each week on literacy skills using the same structured, phonics-based program teachers use. This high-dosage tutoring approach is shown to have the biggest impact. We use a modified approach in TK and Kindergarten to best support the youngest students.
|
Math TutoringVolunteers help students establish a strong foundation and confidence in math through individualized tutoring using math curriculum provided by the classroom teacher. Our program is adapted for both the youngest learners and the older students across elementary school to help students develop essential skills that have a lifelong impact.
|
Mentoring Book ClubIn each 5th grade classroom, volunteers lead a 12-week program for a small group of selected students designed to foster both academic and social-emotional growth. Volunteers guide students as they read together and discuss connections between the story and their own lives.
